Berlin, 13.11.2024 - Jochen Schwill has been appointed to the Supervisory Board of terralayr AG as a Non Executive Director.
In this role, the founder of Next-Kraftwerke will contribute his profound knowledge of the energy market and his network to support terralayr's growth. At the same time, he will act as a strategic sparring partner for terralayr's management. In particular, he will focus on the development of terralayr's “energy flexibility as a service” offering. This allows customers such as renewable energy producers, electricity traders and large electricity consumers such as data centers to access battery capacity when needed without having to bear the costs of physically owning the facility.
Jochen Schwill founded SpotmyEnergy, a smart meter company, in 2023 and is now its CEO. He previously founded Next Kraftwerke with a partner in 2009, where he also served as CEO. Next Kraftwerke was one of the first and is one of the largest virtual power plants in Europe, in which thousands of electricity producers, electricity consumers and electricity storage facilities are intelligently networked. The company managed over 16,000 plants with 13,500 MW of networked capacity in Q4/2023 and traded 15 TWh of electricity in the full year 2023. The cleantech company was sold to Shell in 2021.
“As a fully integrated storage aggregator, terralayr offers all the advantages of battery storage - an intelligent and attractive offer for many players in the energy industry who can benefit financially from the energy flexibility gained in different ways,” says Jochen Schwill.
Philipp Man, co-founder and CEO of terralayr: “Jochen Schwill will also support terralayr in optimizing our flexibility services for customers so that they can derive the greatest possible benefit from the storage capacity that is available at any time”.
terralayr, founded in 2022, is a developer, operator and aggregator of battery storage in Germany that is bringing a new way of commercializing large-scale battery storage to the market with its storage virtualization platform. terralayr has identified a gap between the full economic potential of battery storage and the conventional business model. The company offers flexibility services with terms ranging from 15 minutes to 15 years. For owners of grid-connected battery storage systems, this offers a new opportunity to market storage capacities and achieve higher and more stable returns.
